City Youth Jobs offers Jersey City residents ages 15 to 24 part-time employment opportunities across city departments and agencies every summer, helping them gain meaningful hands-on work experience while supporting essential community programs and services. Annually, more than a dozen city departments and agencies participate in City Youth Jobs, including:

Hands-on work experience may include helping plan and organize community festivals and events with the Division of Cultural Affairs, addressing resident concerns as a member of the Resident Response Center, engaging younger children in the library system’s enrichment programs, lifeguarding for the Department of Recreation’s aquatics program, serving as a camp counselor at one of the Department of Recreation’s Summer Fun camp sites, or helping to keep the city clean at the Department of Public Works. While working on a variety of projects, youth make a positive contribution to their community and gain soft and hard skills including teamwork, time management, and organization.
- Online Application: In order to be considered for the program, potential candidates must submit an online application, highlighting any previous work and extra-curricular activities, as well as which department or agency they are interested in working for throughout the summer.
- Individual Interview: Select applicants are interviewed by a Summer Works staff member. Applicants are notified if they have been selected for an interview via email and/or phone call.
